May 9, Dad’s Birthday; May 10, Mum’s Day!: A poem

You threw your shadows like a tree, in benevolence; even that your fruit be picked, epitomising generosity! You were a spring of responsibility never fazed by autumns of travail; a heavy stemmed-rooted-grounded trunk never daunted by the ingratitude of others…or the axe of wearisomeness! You lived like Phoenixes, pecking their own breasts to feed their fledglings; selflessly never ever mentioning your own self-neglect and enervation! You were like those brave birds, fierce as ox to deter the fox from their nest! A child will know the burden you carried (that you never ventured to offload on others) as he wizens and reflects on it in retrospect; and culminates his own fulsomeness by recreating your magical ignition! Who endeavours to transform fear to patient intrepidity and weakness to humble, but bold strength? Who makes a soft compassionate heart a shield of steel? A diminutive greatness to turn the wheel? And unshakeable faith and belief be your meal! There are no distances manifested from love that is apparent, with emphasis on the laughter of wisdom at the knowledge that there is no greater sacrifice as an universal legative embodiment as the sacrifice for love! Dad, I’m telling you of how much I owe Mum! Mum, I’m telling you of how much I owe Dad!
